Spanning various materials, formats and subject matter, the Sports paintings explore themes of gender, the purity of physical expression, and the fragility and durability of the human condition. Soccer, basketball, baseball and skiing are recurring themes. At times the works feature a recognizable player, while at others the play is obscured resulting in more abstract compositions. All of the works seek to draw parallels between athletes and artists, the studio and the field of play.
