Rope Paintings were inspired by nautical knotting and the practice of cutting down tournament nets in basketball. They are formal meditations on foreground and background; diffused backgrounds are interrupted by the presence of ordinary cotton rope, a ubiquitous material made custom through the process of hand painting.
