The Rope Paintings, inspired by nautical knotting and the practice of cutting down tournament nets in basketball, are formal meditations on foreground and background. Diffused backgrounds are interrupted by the presence of ordinary cotton rope, a ubiquitous material made custom through the process of hand painting.
