Murals on the Bowery presented by Art Production Fund sponsored by Sotheby's partnered by New Museum
July 16 - Sept 1, 2014
Art Production Fund and the New Museum are pleased to present “After Hours 2: Murals on the Bowery” in conjunction with the 2013 IDEAS CITY Festival. For the second edition of this popular and critically acclaimed public art project, APF selected fourteen artists and one artist from an open-call submission to design site-specific murals for the steel roller shutters of commercial supply shops lining the Bowery, between East Houston and Grand Streets. “After Hours 2: Murals on the Bowery” celebrates the legendarily vibrant downtown cultural community and aims to reinstate the sense of freedom and accessibility that originally drew artists to the area. Each mural is a response to the neighborhood in its historical and contemporary context.
“We are thrilled to work with the New Museum to showcase graffiti art, traditional mural paintings, and graphic poster techniques by leading contemporary artists in the epicenter of Manhattan’s burgeoning arts and nightlife district,” said Art Production Fund Cofounders Yvonne Force Villareal and Doreen Remen.
Artists selected to participate in “After Hours 2” include Derrick Adams, Ricci Albenda, Ellen Berkenblit, Mel Bochner, Daniel Buren, Michael Craig-Martin, Sylvie Fleury, Alex Israel, Kerry James Marshall, Oscar Murillo, Laura Owens, Adam Pendleton, Dana Schutz, and Wendy White.
